A writer has filed a lawsuit against against AMC, Robert Kirkman and other producers of , alleging the second season of the television drama infringes on the copyright of his comic book series Dead Ahead. According to , Mel Smith filed the complaint Tuesday in federal court in San Francisco. RELATED: Published in 2008 by Image Comics, Dead Ahead follows a group of survivors whose ocean fishing trip turns into a nightmare when a plague sweeps across the continents, turning humanity into living corpses. With provisions low, the castaways are forced to fend for himself, until a luxury liner appears on the horizon, offering the promise of rescue. But while the ship carries all the supplies they might need, it also brings with it the mystery of what happened to the passengers and crew. In the second season of Fear the Walking Dead, the main characters left dry land amid a zombie outbreak for the open sea. RELATED: As The Hollywood Reporter notes, Smith’s lawsuit contains an additional wrinkle in that Fear the Walking Dead executive producer David Alpert is listed as a co-defendant, and faces a separate claim of breach of fiduciary duty. Kirkman’s business partner and CEO of Skybound Entertainment, Alpert allegedly was also Smith’s agent, through Circle of Confusion, at the time of Dead Ahead‘s publication. In honor of The CW’s hit show , Austin, Texas Mayor Steve Adler proclaimed June 23 to be “Supernatural Day.” The television show, starring Jensen Ackles and Jared Padalecki, was recently renewed for a 14th season. As first reported by local station , Supernatural fans from all over the country flew into Austin for the celebration. The cast and crew, including the show’s stars and their wives, were present as well. Ackles and Padalecki, both Texas natives, call the city of Austin home when they aren’t filming, with Jensen Ackles’ brewery the Family Business Beer Co. located in nearby Dripping Springs. Epix’s Batman prequel series is moving forward. According to , production on the pilot is expected to begin sometime this fall or winter. As the show will take place in London, it is also likely that filming will take place in the U.K. While an exact date has not been given, this is good news for fans who have been waiting to hear more about the show and for fans of Gotham, Fox’s current Batman prequel series, which will conclude after next season. RELATED: While the new series will not be connected to Gotham, two executive producers from the Fox show will take the reigns on Pennyworth: Danny Cannon and Bruno Heller. The pair will work on the origin series to explore a side of Alfred that many audiences haven’t seen before. Notably, Gotham has referenced the character’s past life quite often. Last month, the network for Pennyworth, which will take place in the 1960s and focus on a young Alfred Pennyworth as the former SAS operative — and future butler and confidante of Bruce Wayne — begins his secretive work with Thomas Wayne in England.
