, the new animated series by Matt Groening coming to Netflix in August, now has a teaser trailer giving audiences a look at the fictional world of Dreamland.
The adult comedy takes places within a medieval fantasy setting, centering on the Princess Bean (voiced by Abbi Jacobson) and her companions, a demon named Luci (Eric Andre) and an elf named Elfo (Nat Faxon). The king of Dreamland also features in the trailer, insulting the appearance of a prisoner brought to him until she’s revealed as his own shame-faced daughter.
Groening is, of course, co-creator of The Simpsons, the long-running scripted series about a modern American family, and Futurama, the beloved sci-fi comedy. The Disenchantment trailer points out the major difference of the new show, referring to its theme as the “past,” which rounds out “the future” in Futurama and “the present” of The Simpsons.

Fans will notice the tributes to the other shows in the aerial entrance of the trailer. It opens first on the moon and then dives through a cloudscape resembling the familiar introduction to The Simpsons, before finally centering on the castle in Dreamland. Groening’s distinctive style can also be seen in the pop-eyed and buck-toothed faces of the characters, although the traditional animation is supported by some 3D scenery.
Disenchantment is Groening’s first show on Netflix. The 10-episode first season will arrive Aug. 17.

USA Network has unveiled the first trailer for its forthcoming The Purge television series, a ten-episode event based on the hit franchise of the same name. Like its film counterpart, The Purge revolves around a 12-hour period when all crime — including murder — is legal. The series will follow several seemingly unrelated characters in a small city as they are forced to reckon with their pasts and see how far they are willing to go to endure their own survival amid the annual Purge.

The Purge was written and produced by film franchise creator James DeMonaco, along with Jason Blum of Blumhouse. The series will also see the rest of the producers from the film franchise board the project, including Michael Bay and Brad Fuller. Thomas Kelly will serve as the showrunner for the USA series, while Emmy and Golden Globe award-winner Anthony Hemingway will direct and executive produce the premiere episode.
The show stars Gabriel Chavarria (War for the Planet of the Apes), Jessica Garza (Six), Hannah Emily Anderson (Jigsaw), Lili Simmons (Banshee), Amanda Warren (The Leftovers), Colin Woodell (The Originals), Lee Tergesen (Oz), William Baldwin (MacGyver), Fiona Dourif (Dirk Gently’s Holistic Detective Agency) and Reed Diamond (Dollhouse, Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.).

Jordan Peele is bringing his newest television project to Youtube Premium.
Weird City is a comedic sci-fi anthology series set in the not-too-distant future metropolis of Weird, and will be written by Peele and co-creator Charlie Sanders (a former writer on Key & Peele). Each episode will be an exploration of issues that pertain to present day life, stories that could only be told now through the prism of sci-fi and comedy.
RELATED:
“Writer/creator Charlie Sanders and I collaborated on some ‘Key & Peele’ sketches that took on everything from the ‘Black Republicans’ to ‘Continental Breakfasts’ to ‘Family Matters,” Peele said in a statement. “Now, with YouTube we present a series of comedy driven twisted-ass science fiction stories that take place in a world close to ours but just a little bit off.”
Peele has been busy since the success of his Oscar-nominated thriller Get Out. In addition to Weird City, Peele is executive producing a reboot of The Twilight Zone for CBS All Access, along with a Lorena Bobbitt docu-series and a drama about Nazi hunters entitled The Hunt, both for Amazon. (Peele and his Monkeypaw Productions recently signed a first-look television deal with Amazon.) Peele is also working on his next film: entitled Us, the follow-up to his directorial debut is due in theaters in March 2019.
Along with Peele and Sanders, Jose Molina (The Tick, Agent Carter) will serve as an executive producer and showrunner for the series. The six-episode series will premiere on Youtube Premium sometime in 2019.
