It's safe to say that we're more than a little excited about the big return of . With (!) and insane new drama, the second season of the hit HBO show has sparked tons of speculation - especially since this season will be continuing the story of Liane Moriarty's original novel (which means we have no idea what will happen next!). Moriarty did pen the new story that season two will be based on, so you can rest assured that it is just as juicy. She and the Monterey mom-squad are divulging as little information as possible, but here's what we've gathered so far about what we can expect when the latest season .
1. We'll Learn a Lot More About Bonnie
If you've been dying to know more about Bonnie (who's played by Zoë Kravitz), then . Bonnie's character development was explored much more in Moriarty's novel than it was on season one, detailing her complicated childhood history. When Moriarty first spoke about her ideas for the second season, she said that was one of her first instincts. "The obvious thing is, first of all, I think we could bring in more of Bonnie's story from the book," she told The Sydney Morning Herald.
Kravitz also mentioned that . "Now [we're] revealing who she is, why she is the way she is, and why she did what she did," she told Refinery29. "I don't think you will be disappointed." One thing we know for sure: we're going to meet Bonnie's parents. Though they unfortunately , and Lisa Bonet, we'll instead get to see Martin Donovan from Weeds and newcomer Crystal Fox take on the roles of Martin and Elizabeth Howard.
2. Renata Gets Welcomed Into the Fold
It seems that trouble-making mom Renata (played by Laura Dern) will with the other Monterey mothers and join their girl gang after what went down at the end of season one. As Laura Dern said, it's "thrilling for Renata to have any friends," since the usually abrasive mom will finally get a chance to open up for once. added that it's "really cute" to , breaking down the divide between the working moms and stay-at-home moms. "Dern's character is so excited that she has girlfriends!" she said. "And she wants to hang out and drink wine." Don't we all?
3. Perry Will Return
Wait just a second - isn't Perry dead? Though 's character, Perry Wright, , the actor was on the Golden Globe Awards red carpet if he'll return for the series' second season. "I don't even know if I'm really dead or not," he said. "I feel OK right now but we'll see." Skarsgard confirmed the rumors that he appeared on set for season two on The Tonight Show, but he was tight-lipped about whether his character appears as a flashback in the second season or even at all. "I don't want to get in trouble," he told host . "I was on set, yes. But I can't disclose what I did on set." It sounds like we haven't seen the last of Celeste's despicable husband.
4. Celeste and Her Mother-in-Law Get Close
If you haven't already heard (where have you been?), is , mother of Perry and mother-in-law of 's Celeste, who comes to Monterey looking for answers about her son's death. Though it looks like Mary Louise and Witherspoon's Madeline will have a , she and Celeste despite the tension involving Perry's death. During the show's panel at the 2019 Winter Television Critics Association press tour, Streep kept pretty quiet about the dynamic between Mary Louise and Celeste, but when Kidman turned to her and said, "You love me," Streep agreed. "I do love you and I do love her," she said. "And that's the only thing I'll tell you."
Warning: light spoilers for series 3 of Riverdale can be found ahead.
In the grand tradition of Riverdale casting actors from nostalgic teen shows to play parents and authority figures (oh hi, ) Chad Michael Murray is the latest star to sign up for a guest appearance. The show has a history of teasing the entrance of characters who've been talked about for months (honestly, how long did they drag out ?) and Chad's appearance is no exception. The former One Tree Hill heartthrob will play a character we've been waiting to see for almost an entire series: Edgar Evernever, leader of The Farm, the "safe haven" where Polly sought refuge.
Chad on Feb. 18, promising us that "it's gonna be a wild ride." We'd expect no less from Riverdale. Though Edgar's not had any screen time yet, he's already made his mark on Riverdale, especially when it comes to Betty and her family. Both Alice and Polly Cooper are under his spell, devoted members of his cult-like oganization, and they're going to great lengths to get Betty to join them. We can definitely expect some serious fireworks when the two finally meet. There's no word on exactly when Chad will bring the enigmatic (and most likely evil) Edgar to life, but we've got a feeling we won't have much longer to wait.
The first time I picked up a book by a Nigerian author, I was in college, sifting through my understanding of what it meant to be black. The book was by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, and it's safe to say it changed my life.
The main character, Ifemelu, is forced to contend with her own blackness for the first time when she moves to America - a process that is foreign to someone whose race is thrust upon them the moment they enter the world. Before Adichie, I was well-versed in the imaginings of blackness through the American lens - both black and white. I understood the deafening cloud of oppression and the persistent struggle that weaves its way through every narrative. I understood that blackness, even when unmentioned, always lurked quietly in the background - easily called up when a new character crossed the page. Related: Americanah is different. Ifemelu is black but not in the way the American characters in the book are; not in the way that I am. Her blackness is more solid somehow, unburdened by quarter-white 23andMe test results and a torrid history that is danced around delicately. She looks at black American culture from a precarious distance and conceptualizes race in a way that is captivating because while she's aware of it, she isn't consumed by it. She learns what it means to be black over the course of the novel - because race isn't something she is forced to consider before she arrives in America.
It's the perspective I didn't know I needed as a young, queer black girl looking to understand myself.
It made me reexamine my understandings of race and its mere existence as a category. It's the perspective I didn't know I needed as a young, queer black girl looking to understand myself. From there I fell in love with Adichie and Nigerian authors as a whole (seriously, it's ). And while no two authors are the same, they all share the ability to create bodies of work where blackness isn't prescriptive but descriptive. Their worlds are often filled with black characters who are just living, which taught me that I could just live, too.
Although I have my own personal infatuation with Nigerian authors, they're part of a new generation of young Nigerian artists captivating readers worldwide. reported the renaissance taking place on the continent and the ways their works challenge and address age-old taboos and traditions that went previously unaddressed. The result is vibrant and energetic prose - work that delights, haunts, and travels everywhere from the streets of Lagos to small, American towns.
Ahead, I've rounded up the contemporary Nigerian authors you need to read now - and which books to start with. Related:

Former President Barack Obama has been counseling Democratic candidates on how to win the White House in 2020. But he has no plans to pick a favorite.
When for of made its surprise debut, the one thing that had everyone talking was 's first appearance as the Genie. (OK, , too.) Fans have been curious how the big, blue cartoon character would be translated to a live-action format, and while , Smith himself has talked at length about his feelings on taking on the responsibility of this legendary character.
The original Genie, as voiced by the inimitable , became an instant pop culture icon that has endured over the past two decades. It's an "often replicated, never duplicated" performance that could easily overshadow Smith's take on the character. But he wasn't fazed; instead, from Williams's methods, but not his literal performance.
"After I watched the movie a few times, I saw where Robin Williams infused the character with a timeless version of himself, so I said to myself, "What if I just infuse the character with a timeless version of myself?" And then that opened up for me . . . hip-hop, it opened up fashion. Because the Genie is timeless, you get to really say and do anything so I started to feel confident that I could deliver something that was an homage to Robin Williams but was musically different and just the flavor of the character would be different enough and unique enough that it would be in a different lane versus trying to compete."
The timeless nature of the Genie, both as a character and as a pop culture icon, helped Smith find his own niche. He cites his memorable roles in The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air and Hitch as inspirations for his smooth-talking, hip-hop influenced variation on the Genie in his Entertainment Weekly interview.
"What made the Genie special is that even though he was in a period piece, the Genie had been forward and backwards in time, so because the Genie knew all things from all time, the references and the way that he spoke and the energy that he brought to the character was of a specific era of Robin Williams. I wanted to do that and I really picked that period, the 1990 to 1996 period of what people most remember of the arc that I had created and tried to build a character that lived in that time and space, so it felt nostalgic but also new."
The "new" part also includes a new look for the Genie, which was first revealed, in part, . at first about the Genie's look, as Smith appeared in the photos without blue makeup as a "human" Genie. by sharing one of the images and his own commentary: "BAM!! First look at the Genie, Princess Jasmine, and #Aladdin! Check Me Rockin' the Top Knot Ponytail Vibes in @entertainmentweekly (and yes, I'm gonna be BLUE! :-) This is how the Genie is in Human / Disguise Form. My character will be CGI most of the movie.)"
In the latest trailer for Aladdin, released during the Grammys broadcast, audiences got their first look at Smith as the Genie, thanks to a clip of the famous Cave of Wonders scene where Aladdin unwittingly releases the Genie from his lamp prison. The scene is also home to the Genie's showstopping song "Friend Like Me," written by and Alan Menken. With rapid-fire banter and serious production value, that first scene is one of the most significant moments in the story, and .
"I think for that scene, the important thing for me was to make my signature early, so I wanted to make sure that scene captured the comedy, a little bit of the dramatic flavor that was coming, the fun, the music, so we focused really hard on making the introduction to the Genie as iconic as the original introduction, paying an homage to the original but also quickly getting the new signature on to our reimagining of it."
In the same Entertainment Weekly interview, Smith reflected on how playing the Genie really allowed him to put together all his skills from his career into one single character.
"I got to do everything I know how to do in this movie. I got to act and it was comedy and beautiful dramatic scenes, I got to sing, I got to rap, I got to dance, I got to do action sequences - it was everything that I've trained and learned how to do over the last 30 years of entertainment and I got to it use all in playing the Genie." We can't wait to see Smith put his talents to good use when !

That's a wrap! Director J.J. Abrams took to Instagram on Friday to announce the completion of principal photography on the still-untitled film. He posted an image of costars Daisy Ridley, John Boyega, and Oscar Isaac hugging one another on set with the emotional note, "It feels impossible, but today wrapped photography on Episode IX. There is no adequate way to thank this truly magical crew and cast. I'm forever indebted to you all."
Boyega - who in the film - also shared the heartwarming photo with a message of his own. "That's a wrap on Star Wars episode 9 and the end to a chapter of my life that I couldn't be more thankful for," he wrote. "What a process! It really has been a joy to be in these movies surrounded by amazing people. I personally want to thank @jjabramsofficial for giving me a chance to make my dreams come true." He then ended the homage with one of the movie's most popular phrases, saying, "To our supporters . . . . See you SOON! May the force be with you."
Abrams, Boyega, and the rest of the cast and crew members first embarked on the new-age space journey in 2015 with . Two years later, they returned for another action-packed chapter with . The upcoming film is set to be the final installment of the sequel trilogy as well as the , which began with .
Abrams and Boyega's farewells don't offer any spoilers (seriously, what is the title?!), but we do see that they were filming in a desert-like scene. Could it be the planet Jakku - the homeland of Ridley's character Rey where she first met Finn? Or are we possibly getting a final nod to the earlier Star Wars movies by taking a trip to the desert planet Tatooine - Luke Skywalker's native ground? There are , but only . All we can do is try to prepare ourselves for the intergalactic escapade in a galaxy far, far away when it hits theaters on Dec. 20. Read both Abrams and Boyega's goodbyes ahead! Related:
In invoking emergency powers for an end run around Congress in building his border wall, President Trump violated a norm of presidential self-restraint.
When you consider the fact that was basically that quickly earned , it's easy to see how the film's sequel, , is set up for success. After all, the promises more insane deaths, plenty of laughs, and more than a few scares. All things considered, it's hard to imagine a timeline (ha) in which writer-director Christopher Landon doesn't get the chance to make a third movie. You may think I'm getting ahead of myself, and on some level, you'd be right. But that's only because Universal hasn't officially signed off on a trilogy. That said, there are a few indicators that are giving us a lot of hope.
The main reason we're pretty confident about a third movie is, well, Landon wants to make one. In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, the creator of the universe said he for the third go-round, and that he'd always envisioned this as a trilogy. POPSUGAR was also lucky enough to snag , who reiterated that Landon had shared an insane final idea with her. "I think he has the whole idea in his head, but he's keeping it close to the chest," Rothe said with a laugh. She also shared an interesting premise idea from her costar Israel Broussard. "The thing that I think is really fun that doesn't give away anything, but Israel said yesterday, is he was like, 'Well, it seems to me there's an obvious progression: Movie one: Tree saves herself. Movie two: Tree saves her friends. Movie three: Tree saves the world?' So I actually have no idea if that's it, but I'm gunning for that. That's my superhero movie."
For the record, though, Rothe is 100 percent down to make a third film. In fact, she may be just as enthusiastic as the director himself. "All I know is, whatever I'm expecting, it will be completely different from anything I could ever imagine," she told us. "I also know and trust that it will be the appropriate bookend to this wonderful journey we've gone on with these crazy people." But first, let's all make Happy Death Day 2U a hit, right? See the movie so we can watch the epic conclusion to this absolutely wild ride.
The president’s decision incited instant condemnation from Democrats, who called it an unconstitutional abuse of his authority and vowed to overturn it with Republican support.
It may seem totally sacrilegious to think of a world where don't exist, but the rock-and-roll comedy Yesterday (which also seems like it's going to have some romance in the mix) has us reconsidering.
The film's first trailer introduces struggling singer-songwriter Jack Malik (newcomer Himesh Patel), who, after a bike accident that knocks out his front teeth, wakes up in a world where no one remembers the music of The Beatles except for him. When he plays the wistful "Yesterday" for his friends after the accident, they ask him - obviously in awe - when he wrote the beautiful tune, though one of them notes that "it's no Coldplay. It's not 'Fix You'" . . . which is just disrespectful, honestly. Related: Directed by Slumdog Mullionaire's Danny Boyle and written by rom-com king Richard Curtis (of , Notting Hill, and Love Actually fame), the musical follows Patel's Jack as he does what any other sane wannabe rock star would do when a pot of gold lands in their lap: he passes the songs off as his own. Since no one can resist the allure of any Beatles song, fame and fortune follow, as well as Debra (Kate McKinnon), an American agent. But nothing is ever simple, and Jack's world is about to get a lot more complicated than when his only fan was his childhood best friend, Ellie (Lily James).
While the trailer will undoubtedly make you think of Across the Universe because of its heavy use of music from the iconic band, Yesterday has a decidedly bubblier feel than the fantasy drama, and it has an Ed Sheeran cameo. So it's a totally different film. Check out the trailer above, and brush up on your Beatles discography before the film drops on June 28!
The president’s decision diverts money from military construction projects, bypassing Congress but triggering a clash over the constitutional balance of power.
If there's anything we can take away from one of TV's best comedies, aka NBC's , it's that Galentine's Day is the perfect holiday to celebrate all the awesome women in your life. The ladies of Pawnee don't let a single year pass without celebrating each other every Feb. 13, and even more adorably, their actors seem to do the same!
In a bid to get every Pawnee-lover's heart racing, Aubrey Plaza (who played April Ludgate-Karate-Dwyer) shared a selfie of her, (Leslie Knope), and Rashida Jones (Ann Perkins) . Considering how April and Leslie have a particularly special mentor-mentee relationship on the show - and we all know how is - it's especially heartening to see their real-life counterparts have remained close. While Jones didn't share a photo of the trio, she did share a clip from , and it's just as amazing as we remember.
We know there won't be - and honestly, we're not sure if anything could ever compare to the original - but this just makes us want ASAP!
President Trump would proceed with plans to construct barriers on the southwestern border without legislative approval but keep the government open.
