Rob Liefeld Mourns the Loss of Donald Glover’s Deadpool TV Series

Many were disappointed when FX scrapped Donald Glover’s proposed Deadpool animated series, including one particularly notable figure: Deadpool co-creator Rob Liefeld.

While attending the world premiere of Ant-Man and The Wasp Tuesday night, Liefeld was asked what he thought of the cable network pulling the plug on an animated Merc with a Mouth.

“I thought the whole thing was brilliant. And I really can’t say anything more than that or I’ll get into all sorts of trouble from every side.” he told Variety. “I mourn the loss of that entire project. Donald is a genius, and I’ll always wonder how that would have worked out. But Marvel says: ‘Rob, good things are coming.’ And good things have always come, so I’m gonna believe them and hang on for dear life.”

FX issued a statement in March citing “creative differences” as the reason for the split with Glover and his brother Stephen. The reversal came as a surprise to many after the proposed series received a 10-episode order last year to air on FX’s sister network FXX.

No further details were revealed regarding the project’s sudden cancellation, but Donald Glover released a mock script that suggested other reasons behind FX’s decision. Stephen Glover later hinted that a proposed Taylor Swift-centric episode may have been the final straw for the network.
