Marvel Television’s Co-Head Jim Chory Exits

Jim Chory, Co-Head of Marvel Television and executive producer of every Marvel Cinematic Universe TV series, has opted to exit the company.

First reported by Deadline, Chory’s decision to leave was said to be his own and actually went into effect several weeks ago. Although there are projects in various states of development — including a series for Disney’s still-to-be-named streaming service — there are no new pilots in production, or shows being greenlit, allowing Chory the perfect opportunity to depart on his terms. Having worked with the Head of Marvel Television, Jeph Loeb, from the beginning with 2013’s debut of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., Chory served as an executive producer on all of Marvel Television’s live-action series to date.

Prior to his work with Marvel Television, Chory served as a producer on shows such as Heroes and Smash. While no reason was given for his departure, one could presume the fact that Marvel Television’s slate has increased significantly over the years could have played a part. Since the debut of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. five years ago, Marvel Television has gone on to launch six shows on Netflix with the street level Defenders, as well as two additional shows on ABC, and one on Freeform. That makes for an astounding ten shows, and that’s not including New Warriors, which is currently in a curious state of limbo.

Up next for Marvel Television is the second season of Luke Cage, starring Mike Colter, Simone Missick, Alfre Woodard, and Theo Rossi. New episodes will hit Netflix on June 22. The company also recently launched its second teen-oriented series with Cloak & Dagger on Freeform. That series airs Thursdays at 8pm ET.
