When Harley Quinn’s upcoming animated series was announced last year, her goal was to make it on her own as “the criminal Queenpin of Gotham City.” Now, however, the fan-favorite antiheroine is aiming much higher.
An updated synopsis for the series, set to debut next year on the DC Universe subscription streaming service, reveals that, with a little help from Poison Ivy and others, Harley is looking to earn a place on the Legion of Doom:
Harley Quinn follows Harley’s adventures after she breaks up with the Joker and strikes out on her own in this new adult animated comedy. With the help of Poison Ivy and a ragtag crew of DC castoffs, Harley tries to earn a seat at the biggest table in villainy: the Legion of the Doom.
Introduced in 1978 on the classic Challenge of the Super Friends, the original Legion brought together supervillains Bizarro, Black Manta, Brainiac, Captain Cold, Cheetah, Giganta, Gorilla Grodd, Riddler, Scarecrow, Sinestro, Solomon Grundy and Toyman, under the leadership of Lex Luthor.
Different takes on the Legion have appeared in subsequent decades, across comics, animated and live-action television and video games. However, the team makes its grand entrance into the DC comics universe with the relaunched Justice League.
