Following the news that The CW is looking to launch a new series starring Batwoman, new details have emerged for casting the title role, with the network reportedly seeking actors of any ethnicity.

TVLine also reports the preference would be to find an actor between the ages of 25 and 29 who is lesbian, to accurately depict the Kate Kane from the DC Universe.

The CW announced in May that Batwoman would make her TV debut in the fall’s Arrowverse crossover between The Flash, Supergirl, Arrow and DC’s Legends of Tomorrow. However, it has now come to light that Legends of Tomorrow is not scheduled to be a part of the yearly event.

The Arrowverse is no stranger to having LGBT characters, but Batwoman would be the first to headline her own series. Currently, there is Supergirl’s sister, Alex Danvers, Captain Singh on The Flash, Curtis Holt on Arrow, Sara Lance and Constantine on Legends of Tomorrow, and Ray Terrill from the most recent “Crisis on Earth-X” crossover. One of Batwoman’s love interests from the comics, Maggie Sawyer, was also involved with Alex Danvers, with the two engaged to be married for a short time.

Batwoman is being overseen by producer Greg Berlanti, and written by Caroline Dries (The Vampire Diaries). She will executive produce alongside Berlanti, Sarah Schechter and Geoff Johns. If ordered by The CW, Batwoman would join Arrow, The Flash, Legends of Tomorrow, Supergirl and Black Lightning on the network’s slate of DC-based series.
