Lestat de Lioncourt has risen from the grave once again, this time for television.
The Vampire Chronicles, the bestselling novels by author Anne Rice, has been optioned for television by Hulu. The planned adaptation is being produced by Paramount Television and Anonymous Content who first obtained the television licensing rights from Rice in April 2017.

Following the adventures of 18th century French aristocrat-turned-vampire Lestat de Lioncourt, The Vampire Chronicles debuted in 1976 with Rice’s novel Interview with a Vampire. Over the course of the subsequent eleven novels all penned by Rice, Lestat travels the world and encounters other vampires usually fighting for good from the shadows while reconciling with his vampiric nature over the centuries.
Previously adapted for the big screen with 1994’s Interview with the Vampire and 2002’s Queen of the Damned, a cinematic reboot of The Vampire Chronicles had been in development limbo for years at Universal. After the rights reverted back to Rice in November 2016, the novelist decided to pursue an adaptation of her novel series for television rather than seek out another movie studio.

Hannibal showrunner Bryan Fuller had originally been attached to the project this past January before exiting later this year. Now having received the official greenlight from Hulu, Paramount is currently searching for a new showrunner for the adaptation.
